The 3.15-kW PV system at the Hillsboro Civic Center is only one of the building's sustainable features. In fact, the City hopes to be awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certificate by the U.S. Green Building Council, which would also make the structure the first 'LEED Gold' city hall in the country.

In addition to serving as office space, the complex will serve as an educational tool, demonstrating to the public the benefits of environmentally friendly design and renewable power. An interactive kiosk in the building's lobby will display the real-time data generated by the PV installation.

BEF and PGE both provided financial support for the Hillsboro project. PGE's funding was made possible by its commercial and industrial green power customers.
